Profhilo is a unique skin bio-reremodelling treatment designed to cure wrinkles from within rather than simply treat/ fill them. From the age of 30, skin begins to lose a significant amount of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid (HA). This treatment will stimulate the production of collagen and elastin with a slow release of HA which significantly improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Unlike dermal fillers, Profhilo does not add volume, think of it more as a huge boost of hydration from within. This injectable treatment has a very high concentration of HA which is injected into the skin through five different key points on each side of the face. A unique aesthetic treatment, Profhilo works in stages which requires two treatments with a three-week interval. You will see results instantly after the second treatment. Profhilo® remains in the skin for around 28 days after, working hard to stimulate four different types of collagen and elastin as it slowly releases hyaluronic acid. 

This results in improved skin quality and skin hydration both in the dermis and epidermis. There is also increased production of endogenous HA and elastin giving the skin a more youthful look.

Profhilo does not create true lift or volume replacement associated with cross-linked dermal fillers, however, it creates volume in the tissue where it is needed due to its high spreadability. Owing to this characteristic, it is an ideal treatment for challenging areas as well, such as the neck, perioral area, and hands and arms, where we do not see the significant volume loss, but skin has lost elasticity.

Profhilo is most commonly used for facial areas, but can also effectively be used for rejuvenating the neck, decollete, arms, knees and hands. Increasingly, the neck is becoming a popular area to have Profhilo, due to its ability to help reduce crepe-like skin and sagginess, and encourage a firmer appearance.

After a single course of Profhilo, which involves 2 injectable treatments 3 weeks apart, you can expect to see an intense hydration. It makes the skin glow and fine lines can disappear. You’ll notice smoother, tighter skin. Even for those with very wrinkled skin, an improvement in the texture is undeniable. The treatment can be repeated after six months in cases where more repair is desired.

Usually, people won’t be able to tell you’ve had a treatment as the results are enhanced natural looking beautiful skin. But this depends on the skin condition being treated and the desired outcome. Profhilo can significantly improve skin laxity. By increasing the tissue density some patients have seen some lifting, which can be noticeable.  Most patients say they were complemented on how fresh they looked, but hardly ever asked what they had done.

The results from Profhilo treatments will most often last for up to six months, but results can differ from person to person

Due to the way that Profhilo is formulated, it is not a volumising treatment in the same way that dermal fillers are, and is not used to enhance specific areas of the face (e.g. lips, cheeks, chin).  Profhilo is primarily a hydrating treatment, and the Hyaluronic Acid it contains is dispersed evenly throughout the face, giving your skin a more plump and firm look overall.

To achieve the best long-lasting results, 2 treatments are recommended with a 3 week interval. Some people may see the results within first week, but the best outcomes of the treatment will be visible 4 weeks after the second treatment

Following treatment, you will be provided with verbal and written aftercare instructions to minimise your risk of side effects.  There is minimal downtime and so you can resume your daily activities immediately.

Common side-effects of Profhilo are similar to other types of fillers (but even fewer) and include mild bruising and swelling. Small lumps can form where each of the injection sites have been. These lumps will subside usually within 4-6 hours after the treatment but they can last up to 24 hours, however, not every patient gets these swellings and if you have had treatment and are concerned all aftercare is included in the treatment costs. The lumps generally disappear in a short period of time and are associated with the needle, not the product.

Profhilo was launched in February 2015 in Italy. It’s been used worldwide ever since. Hundreds of thousands of patients have been treated so far with no adverse reactions reported. From a safety perspective, Profhilo is highly biocompatible. That’s because it is made from ultrapure, natural Hyaluronic Acid and is stabilised without the addition of chemical cross-linking agents. This reduces the risk of adverse reactions.

It is very uncommon to have any serious side effects, however if you do experience any of the following, please call the emergency contact number immediately, or if after hours, seek help from a GP or A&E:

• swelling that is getting worse as time passes
• increase in pain and getting more severe with time
• skin feeling hot, redness increasing and becoming  worse in time
• skin near the treatment area or along the side of the nose looking pale/white or greyish in colour on the day or day after the treatment, and pain increasing in this area
• generally feeling unwell in the days following your treatment

– avoid vigorous physical activity and sports for 24 hours

– avoid having further cosmetic procedures for 48 hours

– avoid saunas, very hot baths and showers for 48 hours. 

– avoid strong direct sun exposure

Patients can expect increased firmness, elasticity and an overall improved quality of the skin for up to six months.
